We’ll ride throughout the busy streets of Cochin (Kochi). Famous churches, cathedrals, synagogues and palaces are all within walking distance and the sights and smells of the famous Chinese fishing nets and the market, with its teas, spices, nuts, fabrics, rosewood, Kathakali masks, cigars - make this an enjoyable wander. This evening brings the tour to a close with our visit to Kathakali dance show traditional Keralean dance, where the characters use larger than life gestures, wear outrageous costumes and dramatic make up. Today we will ride through the tea plantations, pristine valleys and mountains- exotic species of flora and fauna with the aroma of spice scented in the cool air.We will eventually begin to climb up to the beautiful Hill Station of Munnar which is situated at an altitude of 1500 m. This Morning start our trek through forests towards the edge of the Anaerangal Lake. Snaking across a large area, this lake is placid and beautiful and a source of water for farmers downstream. Many tribal colonies here farm spices and cardamom which grow abundantly in the salubrious climate here. Everyone could enjoy a soft trek to the Anaerangal Lake and if lucky, you could spot some wild elephants. In addition this place is good for bird watching too. Drive today will take us through the cardamom hills of Idukki. The evocative name of the Cardamom Hills is home to the Periyar Wildlife Sanctuary, a reserve on the Kerala/Tamil Nadu border which is surrounded by tea and spice plantations. Lush forest, with a vast lake at its heart, is home to many indigenous animals. On arrival, check in to the hotel. This Evening enjoy the Martial arts show (Kalaripayattu show) - The Shaolin monks have made their disciplined displays of Kung Fu world famous, but few know that their art was learned from Bodhi Dharma, an Indian monk who was a Kalaripayattu master. Legend traces this form of martial art back 3000 years and here, close to Periyar, you have the chance to experience a display of this most ancient of art forms.(Overnight in Periyar).
This morning proceed to visit an Elephant camp, you could help the mahout to wash the elephant; see how much the Elephant likes to be bathed. Enjoy a 20 min ride on an Elephant. Followed by spice plantations, the Cardamom Hills are the ideal location to explore a garden where spices and other aromatic plants are grown. Learn about their use in the preparation of local cuisine and their medicinal properties. This afternoon board a small boat for the chance to cruise the lake at the heart of the Periyar Wildlife Sanctuary. From the tranquility of the lake, enjoy the lush scenery all around you and keep a look out for animals that may come down to the water edge – maybe a family of elephants, scurrying Wild Boar or the magnificent Sambar Deer. We will ride descending out of the mountains and heading towards backwater of Kerala where we will board a barge which is famous in Kerala. Experience the daily lives of the locals from the decks of a house boat. Pass women washing their clothes in the river and farmers bathing their buffalo; watch as fishermen and vegetable sellers go from house to house by boat selling their wares; pass villagers standing up to their necks in water gossiping with their neighbour. Enjoy tasty local meals as the boat drifts along and watch as the sun sets over the ever-changing scenery before retiring to your cabin to be lulled to sleep by the gently lapping water. Short ride will be heading to Marari Village. Here the beach is very clean and serene. Check in and immerse yourself in all the comforts of the world – massage by experts, delicious local food. What you are going to love here most is the proximity to one of the loneliest beaches on this stretch. This day, you can walk along the golden beach or even dip your toes into the warm waters, watching the fishing boats coming in and the place bursting with activity as the catch is sorted!
