Drive to Beypore, a prominent port and fishing harbour of ancient Kerala. You could visit the fish markets or venture into town and visit the Sweet Meat Street and the many colourful shops and continue your drive through semi-arid countryside and farmland, then through forest and finally into the Wayanad Hills with their lush mix of coffee and spice plantations, rice fields and jungle to reach your new oasis. Walk through spice and vegetable gardens- a guided tour. “Meet our elders”: experience their ways of sustainable living, we take you to where our modernity began. A special lunch is organized for the guests with only products made of bamboo, from bamboo rice, to bamboo shoots to pickles. Unique experience. You will have the chance to interact with local farmers and visit Uravu, a local NGO which produce bamboo handicrafts. This morning you would visit Edakkal Caves (closed on Mondays). It is a pre-historic rock shelter formed naturally out of a strange disposition of three huge boulders making one to rest on the other two with its bottom jutting out in between and serving as the roof. You would visit Kuruva Island If you want to get away from it all and experience a little peace and quiet, take a picnic to this uninhabited island on the tribituaries of the Kabani River. Cross on foot when the water is low or take a small ferry. Explore the dense forest looking for the rare birds, that call the island home, and exquisite orchids. Overnight at the Hotel.
Drive to Thalassery (or Tellicherry as the British christened it during the times of the Raj), a vibrant fishing town in the north of Calicut which is famous for the 3 C’s- Circus, Cricket and Cakes. It is known for being the first British settlement in Kerala and needless to say Cakes and Cricket were both introduced here by the British. Telichery is famous all over today for its bakeries and cakes. It is also rich in culture and traditions of the North of Kerala.
