Staying at Philipkuttys Farm, which is set on a little island of its own, offers a unique opportunity to enjoy the real Kerala experience in a fascinating location with a caring family to look after you. A homestay that has garnered accolades from all quarters for the extraordinary service it provides to guests, Philipkuttys is a special place and the perfect hideaway for the bespoke traveller.
This cluster of tiny islands is almost impossibly beautiful, surrounded by a labyrinth of tropical waterways. Kumarakom is the jumping off point to join a boat to explore the Kerala backwatersMore
Philipkutty has 6 cottages which resemble mini-houses - lining the banks of the backwaters property dyke and landscaped with bougainvillea. Each has its own veranda with views of the waterways and the island’s tropical jungle, and each offers a spacious bedroom with an ensuite bathroom.
All meals at Philipkutty’s are included in the price - and the lavish feasts, cooked by the graceful and skilful Mrs Mathew Senior, are often the highpoint of the day. Expect traditional Keralan cuisine - big on fish, coconut and vegetarian dishes - using organic, home-grown fruit, vegetables and spices, plus fresh king prawns and karimeen (or pearlspot) fished from the farm canals.
